Recent advancements in 3D printing materials are filling a major gap in the medical field. Once limited to using cadavers, animals, and mannequins for physician training and medical device testing, medical practitioners and students now have access to biomechanically realistic models to simulate challenging clinical cases. These 3D-printed anatomical models can replicate disease-specific pathology, be customized to the requirements of the device, and enable training and testing in any environment. They allow surgeons and medical students to have hands-on experience and medical device engineers to accelerate product development, enhancing clinical simulation and improving physician preparation. By removing many of the overhead costs to traditional models (like cadavers and animal studies), the total cost of training and testing can be significantly reduced.

In this session, Stratasys Direct Manufacturing will present the latest developments in 3D printing technology for the medical industry, as well as real-world examples of companies and health systems using 3D-printed medical models, including Walter E. Dandy Neurosurgical Society, Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, and Sonoma Orthopedics Products, Inc.
