Product designers and engineers are responsible for interpreting ideas into fully functional products which must comply with hundreds of critical specifications including ease of manufacturing, otherwise referred to as DFM (design for manufacturing). Decisions influencing all the subtle details affecting part design cannot be made by any one individual or isolated design department. Injection molded parts are especially challenging since part designs cannot be easily changed after the molds have been machined. This brief presentation will address the top 10 critical design considerations for properly designing an injection molded part and the importance of collaborating with trustworthy molders throughout the design process.
