Chris Macomber is a general and minimally invasive/robotic surgeon at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, part of Allina Health. He specializes in minimally invasive/robotic hernia surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction and foregut/anti-reflux surgery. He is the Allina Health Chair of Robotics encompassing the three Allina hospitals with Intuitive Surgical platforms and the Allina orthopedic, spine and interventional pulmonology robotics programs.
Chris is very active in the med-tech space with over 15 years of health IT, medical technology development, and consulting experience, including two start-ups of his own. He has a particular interest in med tech innovation, surgical outcomes analysis, and cost, clinical outcomes and development of minimally invasive/robotic technology. He continues to develop new technology/devices with his extensive network of med-tech colleagues, in addition to assisting companies with the design, testing and trialing of new medical devices and technology.
Chris completed the Eight-Year Leadership in Medicine BS/MBA/MD program, receiving a Bachelors of Science from Union College, an MBA in Health Care Management from the Graduate College of Union University and an MD with Distinction in Health Management Systems from Albany Medical College. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed a two-year research fellowship in surgical outcomes and surgical technology innovation. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Chris lives with his wife and new baby boy in Minneapolis. When not working, he can be found at the stables helping train their eventing horse, outdoors by a fire, skiing or cheering his wife on at a horse.
